To this date, it still is not known where Ikat rugs first originated.  It is generally thought they are from southeast Asia, India, and Central Asia.
Ikat rugs are named after their design: sort of tribal looking with abstract, tie-dye like features.
A characteristic of Ikat textiles is an apparent “blurriness” to the design.
