Afshar rugs come from southwestern Iran.  Typically, Afshar rugs are knotted in shades of red, ivory, and blue and usually have rectilinear patterns. Rosettes are sometimes next to the rather straight patterns. The knotter and his imagination determines whether there is a middle medallion or a pattern spread over the carpet.
